This post will inspire you to kick start your self-care journey this New Year with these 5 self-care tips.

The New Year is a time for new beginnings. It is a time used to work on new goals and get our life together. Many people wish to kickstart their self-care journey in the New Year.

The New Year allows us to refocus on what is really important and motivates us to try our best to achieve our goals.

For many people embracing the concept of self-care is a new and trendy goal.

The goal of self care is appealing because we have come to realize that we are important human beings. We have learned that taking care of our needs mentally, spiritually, physically is extremely important for our well-being.

The problem is, oftentimes we think of self-care as enhancing our beauty. However, there is more to self-care than only striving to look good.

What is self-care?

  • Self-care can consist of many different actions one can do to improve your health and overall well being. But self-care is truly about tuning into yourself and your unique needs that need to be fulfilled to make you the best you that you can be.
  • Self Care involves being mindful of your own personal needs and desires.

Why is self-care important?

  • Self-care is important because it allows you to learn how to take care of yourself first. As women, we are often tasked with being mothers, lovers, nutritious, protectors but often forget the importance of being these things for ourselves.
  • “You need to take care of yourself before you take care of others”. This is important because when we are too busy taking care of others we neglect ourselves which has a negative impact on our lives.
  • Neglecting your own needs can cause burnouts, loneliness, depression, etc. This will cause you not to be able to be there for others because you will be too cluttered with your own issues.

What self-care Looks Like

Self-care is more than maintaining one’s health.  It involves going back to the basics and enjoying all the small things that make you happy. It’s about finding your peace. So as much as getting your hair done, nails done and everything did can make you feel pampered and at peace, what we think, eat, drink, and do contribute to our self-care too.

Here are 5 self-care tips for the new year!

1.Be Grateful! Begin Your Day by writing a word of Gratitude

Beginning your day with words of gratitude and words of affirmations is bound to bring positivity to your life. Begin the new year by investing in a journal that you can use to write down the things you are grateful for as soon as you wake up each day.

Don’t forget the power of words of affirmation.

Become committed to writing down words that motivate you to be the best you.

Remind yourself of how important you are by stating: I am smart, I am beautiful, I am worthy. These are just a few words you can write down to reinform positivity and self-love in your life.

It is true what they say, the words that come out of your mouth are powerful. The thoughts that come to your mind creates your reality. Speaking things into existence is real! If you begin your day with negativity the likelihood of you having a bad day will be extremely high. The same logic applies to starting your day uttering positive things and having a positive mindset. Thinking and saying positive things will higher your chances of having a positive day.

Whatever it is you want to achieve in life, you must speak into existence.

So change old habits, take some time to create the life you desire by speaking positivity into your life.

2.Organize your day!

Planning your day is one of the most important things you can do to help you focus and reduce stress.

Organizing your day can work wonders for your life. We are all super busy people with many goals we want to achieve and many responsibilities. To help reduce the stress that comes from desiring success you need to learn how to manage your time.

One of the ways to do this is by organizing your day.

A great way to begin organizing your day is by using an agenda or a notepad to keep you organized.

This way you will have a list of your goals so you can keep track of what you need to get done.

The next step is to prioritize your task. Once you have a list down of all things you need to do, you need to begin prioritizing your task. This is important especially when you have a lot to accomplish in a day. Doing this will help you separate the urgent task from the non-urgent and reduce stress or potential burnout.

Once you have your priorities straight, the next step is to get to work! Many times we don’t accomplish what we set out to because there’s just so much for us to do. But remembering positive words of affirmation, staying focused, and following your list by priority will certainly get things done. Organization is key, write down your goals, prioritize them, give yourself a timeline to complete them, and get the job done

3.Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking water is something that many of us forget as often as we should. All of us have heard that drinking 8 glasses of water a day is important for our health. The problem is not many of us follow this guideline. On a daily basis, many of us consume coffee, tea, juice, soft drinks, and maybe 2-4 glasses of water.

Drinking water is important for starting your self-care journey. Not drinking enough water can leave your body dehydrated and prevent your body from functioning the way it should. Your body needs water to keep your organs healthy, remove toxins from your body, and reduce your stress levels.

Making sure your body is well hydrated will help you feel so much better.

It will help you to be less stressed and help you stay healthy. A great way to keep yourself well hydrated is to keep a water bottle with you throughout the day. You can add some flavor to your water to shake it up and make your drinking experience more fun. Adding some lemon, lime, or mint will bring new flavor to your water while encouraging you to stay hydrated.

Like mentioned before, self-care is about taking care of yourself from the inside out. so don’t neglect your insides when thinking about enhancing your care routine.

4.Eat healthy and Take Your vitamins

Along with drinking water, adopting healthy eating habits, and taking vitamins are extremely healthy for embracing your self-care journey. Eating healthy food is the ultimate form of self-care because it provides your body with all the nutrients it needs.

When we are too busy to take the time to be mindful about the food we consume we are putting our bodies in jeopardy which can wreak havoc on our body, mind, and soul.

However, when we take the time to think about the food we eat and the nutrients it provides we are likely to make more positive choices in what we eat.

A great way to help us be mindful about the meals we consume is by creating a well-balanced meal plan. A well-balanced meal plan will allow you to have a variety of food your body needs.

Of course, we all love to have some delicious meals throughout the week, but changing up our meals to follow the recommended food guide will help you be as healthy as can be.

So adopting healthy food habits will help you in your goal of achieving health and wellness. Eating food full of protein, fruits, veggies, and whole grains will help your body to be well balanced. Once your body is well-balanced with nutrients it will be able to function to the best of its potential which will help you feel better, look better, and motivate you to do better.

Don’t forget your vitamins. Sometimes the important vitamins and nutrients we need are not present at the percentage that we need in the food we consume. To help supplement this need, try to incorporate multivitamins to help increase your nutritional needs.

5. Be Kind To Yourself & Live in the moment

Now this is something a lot of us forget to incorporate in our lives.

We go through life wanting to be good to others but oftentimes forget the importance of being good to ourselves. Many of us are very harsh on ourselves, we overthink and criticize ourselves a lot. We tend to think about all the things we have done wrong rather than all the things we have done right.

But It is important for us to learn the art of being kind to ourselves. Being kind to ourselves will allow us to be the best we can be.

If you go through life dwelling on your mistakes, you will definitely be unhappy which will have a negative impact on your esteem and prevent you from being the best you.

Instead of dwelling on the past, you need to remember that we are all human, and no one is perfect.

It is important for us all to learn how to be committed to living in the moment and enjoy every experience for what it is. And we need to prevent the negative experiences from defining who we are.

Sure, sometimes things don’t go as planned. But we have to learn how to stop overthinking and let things go. When we are able to let the things that hurt us go, we are able to grow and when we are able to grow we are able to learn from our experiences and aim to be better.

Let This New Year Bring Out the Best You!

Selfcare is about becoming our better selves, so it is important to let go and live in the moment, reminding yourself of all the beauty inside you.

Caring for oneself is a beautiful thing. It is something that we all need to remember to do to help us live our best lives.

As the new year begins, remember that self-care will give you the confidence you need. It will help you to be the best you and achieve the life you want by allowing you to stay focused on the things that truly matter.

Remember the things that truly matter are the things that help you be the best person you can be.
